Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya’s health condition worsened at the weekend, prompting his family and Parliament of Uganda to start making plans to fly him abroad for specialized treatment.
Ssegirinya collapsed at his home after suffering life-threatening breathing complications. He was rushed to Mengo Hospital in critical condition where doctors did everything possible to ensure that he recovered.
The first time National Unity Platform (NUP) MP has been feeling unwell in the past two weeks, according to Alex Luswa Luwemba, his personal assistant.
Luswa, who runs Ssegirinya’s political office and now calls himself Mr Kawempe, says that Ssegirinya’s health is worrying since he has trouble breathing normally and needs specialized treatment.
Apparently, the legislator has issues with his left lung and is expected to seek specialized treatment for the same in Berlin Germany.
Ssegirinya has already booked an appointment at Hageb Ambrock Hospital in Berlin Germany.
Prof Wolfgang Galetke, the head of the Pneumology Department will lead a team of medical experts who will work on Ssegirinya.
The youthful MP is expected to fly out of the country on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
His personal assistant has asked Ugandans to pray for his boss, Ssegirinya.
For nearly two years, Ssegirinya was in prison on a raft of charges. He once displayed ‘wounded’ feet during a court session. Speaker Anita Among has previously made it clear that Parliament has capacity to treat Ssegirinya in any part of the world. Other opposition MPs such as Betty Nambooze have been treated abroad by Museveni government using tax payers’ money. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
