Following the arrest of Ugandan dance hall star, Richard Kasendwa aka Ziza Bafana, and other four colleagues in Kyotera district, for going against Presidential directives, Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, has asked for justice in their case.
Bafana, and his fellows; Shaban Nsamba alias DJ Shan, Aron Kakiza aka Heizo music, Shaffik Ismael, a music promoter and Bashir Ssekamanje, a presenter at BBS TV, sneaked through Mutukula border into Tanzania, where they had a music concert.
On their on August 31, Police at Mutukula border ordered them to self-quarantine for 14 days where they have been until September 14.
Police reported that while in quarantine at a near by hotel, Bafana and his colleagues performed for the people, an act that puts people’s lives at a risk of contracting the deadly corona virus.
The Kyotera District Police Commander Ms Judith Akol, confirmed the arrests saying they will appear in court on September 15.
“We arrested Bafana and his colleagues because they went to Tanzania and performed without permission yet they very well know the directives of the President against the spread of Corona virus,” she said.
In a statement released on September 15, Bobi Wine considered Bafana’s arrest as illegal, saying that it is political oriented.
“If his crime was related to promoting Covid19, thousands of NRM politicians should now be in custody. Many singers who have been singing at NRM rallies should be under detention,” Bobi Wine said.
“Gen. Museveni himself was in Tanzania on the weekend, it is very shameful that a government can treat citizens this way and punish them simply for identifying with a political leader or political formation,” Bobi Wine added.
It is aleged that while in Tanzania, Bafana talked about Bobi Wine and promoted People Power on stage.
Bobi Wine believes that Bafana’s crime was singing about People Power but not going against the directives.
