All is set for the official launch of Ground Patriotic Checkers Uganda, a mobilization group for the reelection of Uganda’s current President Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni in 2026.
Uganda’s is a little over a year away from the next general elections where registered voters are expected to choose a president, members of parliament and local council leaders. President Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is expected to be on the ballot paper.
Now, a group committed to mobilizing for President Museveni’s reelection will be launched today at Bat Valley Primary School in the capital Kampala, according to Francis Namanya, the Ground Patriotic Checkers Uganda publicity secretary.
Ground Patriotic Checkers Uganda seeks to ensure that Museveni outcompetes the opposition in areas like Kampala Capital City and Central Uganda where the opposition enjoyed enviable support in the 2021 elections.
According to Namanya, all supporters of the National Resistance Movement as well as those who with the party and its national chairman well are expected to attend the launch of Ground Patriotic Checkers Uganda.
The group’s spokesperson also confirmed that unch will be served to all participants who are expected to come to Bat Valley Primary School.
Also expected, according to Namanya, are several government officials and NRM leaders. The chief guest is expected to be Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, the State Minister for Youth and Children’s Affairs, who is a vocal mobilizer.
It should be remembered that Museveni has over the years won by a considerable number of votes. While some had expected him to back army chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba in 2026, the first son came out and revealed that he would not stand but would rather support his father, as reported Here and There.
