Gen Tumukunde Clears Air on Reports that His Son is set to Marry Museveni’s ‘Daughter’

Amanya Tumukunde, son to former presidential candidate and ex-security minister Lt Gen Henry Kakurugu Tumukunde, is set to wed President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s ‘daughter’ Dr Angela Kakishozi.

Museveni and Tumukunde were comrades in the National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle that led the current NRM government into power.

In 2018, Museveni sacked Lt Gen Tumukunde as security minister and replaced him with Gen Elly Tumwine.

Three years later, Tumukunde challenged Museveni in the 2021 presidential election but lost miserably.

The two generals’ children are now reportedly set to wed.

Tumukunde has been quoted as saying that “it is true [Amanya and Dr Angela Kakishozi] are getting married.”

“Our son Amanya and his fiancée have known each other since childhood and their relationship is long known by our families,” he added.

“There is nothing new about our son (Amanya) dating Angela because they have known each other for ages. The only thing is that maybe it is now becoming a public matter but there is nothing to hide.”

Kakishozi holds a Bachelor of Medicine degree from Monash Unviersity in Malaysia, attained in 2018.

The ‘first daughter’ is said to be pursuing her Master’s of Epidemiology at the Columbia University.
