Former army commander Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu has openly told first son and UPDF Commander of Land Forces  to ask him father Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni to retire him from the armed forces so that he can pursue his rumored political interests.

Lt Gen Kainerugaba has used his 48th birthday celebrations to make a political statement. From making it clear that he is interested in winning power and becoming president. He even said that his bid is unstoppable.

In almost all the birthday events where he had a chance to speak, the first son emphasized what needs to be done to solve the problems of the youth. He seems to claim that he will ride on the youth movement which he says support his bid.

Kainerugaba’s birthday celebrations, which some political observers say are akin to early campaigning, ended with a ‘thank you’ party attended by friends and supporters at the Entebbe Cricket Oval on May 07.

But the president’s son has come under fire for engaging in partisan politics when he is still a serving UPDF officer, contrary to the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and the UPDF Act.

It is against this background that Maj Gen Muntu, a 2021 presidential candidate for the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has advised the first son to ask his father to retire him from the army so as to pursue his political agenda.

Muntu has advised Lt Gen Kainerugaba to use the same skills he used to stop Uganda and Rwanda from going to war to ask the Commander-in-Chief of armed forces to retire him from the national army so he can stand for president.

The former army commander noted that there was nothing wrong with Muhoozi running for president, but he urged the first son to respect the national army, get out of the UPDF uniform and come to politics.

“Use the same insight to ask the CIC to retire you from the Army as you pursue your political Agenda. It is legitimate. However, respect the officers and men in Uniform. NRA/ UPDF has been built through many sacrifices. Welcome to politics but GET OUT of uniform first,” Muntu told Muhoozi.

Gen Muntu has previously told Muhoozi that he might have to annoy his father Museveni if he wants to become president. (Read Story Here).

Meanwhile, at least two former bush war fighters, including a serving General, have vowed never to salute Muhoozi even if he ever becomes president of Uganda. (Read Story Here).

The first son and two others have since been dragged to court over political statements as made during the birthday celebrations and on Twitter. But Muhoozi has told a ‘small hater’ lawyer behind the case in the Constitutional Court that the ‘Highest Judge’ is on his side. (Read Story Here).
