Sections of Ugandan social media were on Saturday, August 13, awash with claims that former security minister Gen Elly Tumwine had died.
Some of the Ugandan social media posters went as far as heartlessly celebrating the claims that the general was no more.
But the family of Gen Elly Tumwine has spoken out on the reports, dismissing them as rumors.
“On behalf of the family of Gen Tumwine, we hereby dispel rumours circulating on social media in regards to his health and well-being. Thank you for the love and prayers,” the family tweeted on Tumwine’s official Twitter account.
The family’s short statement indicates that Tumwine is still alive, contrary to reports that he had breathed his last.
Reports of Tumwine’s health condition emerged a few days ago. (Read Story Here).
Currently a presidential advisor on security matters since he was dropped out of cabinet in June 2021, Gen Elly Tumwine has been courting controversy.
For example, Tumwine openly accused Museveni of being drunk on power, turning into a ‘Ngamba-Nyenka.’ (See Stories Here, There and Over There).
