Government chief whip (GCW) Thomas Tayebwa has reportedly joined to race for deputy speaker after Anita Among won NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) endorsement.
The Pearl Times broke the news of Among’s endorsement by NRM CEC Wednesday evening. (Read Story Here).
A few hours later, Among released a statement saluting CEC and expressing hope that she would sail through in the Friday election. (Read Story Here).
With Among accepting CEC’s endorsement, the deputy speaker position has fallen vacant.
GCW Tayebwa is now said to be interested in becoming the next deputy speaker.
Tayebwa’s posters have been making rounds on social media.
The Ruhinda North MP has not yet come out to confirm he is standing for deputy speakership.
On March 23, Tayebwa made it clear he would not stand for deputy speaker. (Read Story Here).
In the May 2021 election for deputy speaker, Tayebwa was in the race. But Museveni convinced the youthful MP to stand down for Among.
Weeks later, Museveni rewarded Tayebwa with a Government Chief Whip position. (Read Story Here).
