Full List: Thousands awarded government sponsorship at Makerere, Mubs

Makerere University has released the list of A-level leavers admitted under government’s national merit sponsorship scheme for the 2020/21 academic year.

The scholarships that cover tuition and functional fees, housing and food expenses are awarded to the best performing A-level candidates for respective academic programs applied for.

Ordinary level and primary level scores are also factored in the calculation of cut-off points during the selection of deserving candidates.

The other government scholarship avenues include the quota system where each district is given slots to admit needy but brilliant candidates.

The list doesn’t include those admitted on the prestigious law course since Covid19 restrictions disrupted the earlier schedule for pre-entry exams.

Dates for reopening of the university and other education institutions will be determined by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

In March 2020, President Yoweri Museveni closed all learning centres to prevent the spread of Covid19. A few days later, Uganda recorded her first case on March 21.

An earlier plan for reopening to candidate and finalist classes was suspended pending an evaluation of the partial easing of the Covid19 lockdown for public transport and trade.

Education minister and First Lady Janet Museveni is expected to brief education stakeholders on the phased reopening in the coming weeks.
