FULL LIST: See Names of 7500 Ugandans Who Have Not Picked Their Passports from Immigration for the Period from January 2019 to December 2021

The names of Ugandans whose passports remain uncollected from the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been revealed.

A total of 7,500 passports have not been picked by their owners in a period of three years, according to the list obtained by The Pearl Times The uncollected passports are for the period from January 2019 to December 2021.

The uncollected passports are for various categories issued by DCIC. It is not clear why these thousands of Ugandans have not picked the passports for which they paid hundreds of thousands and even went through the difficult process of collecting the necessary documents and recommendations as well as sat interviews.

But it is likely that some could have cancelled or given up on their plans for travel since passports are a very key document for travel outside the country, and are some times used as an identification document.

Besides being expensive for many Ugandan families given the poverty levels in the impoverished East African nation that Uganda is, the passport issuance process is hectic. There is a possibility that some of the applicants could have been frustrated by the entire process and given up.

It remains to be seen how many of the Ugandans appearing on the list will travel to DCIC to pick their passports. But the directorate has encouraged them to collect this important identification and travel document.

“We urge all who appear to collect their passports as soon as possible,” DCIC said on July 20.

The issue of uncollected passports remains a major concern to this directorate under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whose political head is Minister Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire, and its junior (state) minister Gen David Muhoozi, the former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the UPDF, Uganda’s national army.

DCIC has previously threatened to burn all uncollected passports into ashes.
