FULL LIST: 2,500 History Teachers Miss Out on Government Payroll Jobs after FAILING Aptitude Test

A little over 2,500 teachers failed to garner the score needed for them to proceed to the next level of the recruitment exercise for History Education Officers (EO) and Assistant Education Officers (AEOs). 

At least 2,950 teachers had been shortlisted for an aptitude test for the positions of EOs and AEOs.

But only about 435 passed the test and were shortlisted for oral interviews from which exercise the most competent teachers will be handed government payroll jobs.

This means that only about 15 per cent — 15 in every 100 teachers who sat the aptitude test — passed and were successful, and therefore considered knowledgeable and skilled to continue to the next stage of the exercise being conducted by the Education Service Commission (ESC).

This also means that 2,515 of the teachers who were shortlisted for the aptitude test failed to proceed to the next stage and will have to keep or seek jobs in private schools or wait for another recruitment exercise — or even try other sectors of the economy.

The failure rate among the History teachers was higher for those seeking jobs as assistant education officers. Of the 1,457 who had been shortlisted for the assistant education officer slots, only 185 — equivalent to about 13 per cent — passed and proceeded to the next stage: oral interviews.

This means that 1,272 — or about 87 per cent — did not qualify for the oral interview stage.

For the History teachers seeking education officer jobs, only 250 of the 1,493 — translating in nearly 17 per cent — who had been shortlisted to sit the aptitude test passed.

The rest, about 1,243 — equivalent to about 83 per cent — failed and are ineligible for oral interviews, the basis of which successful candidates will be handed government payroll jobs.
