Finding the best hostel to reside in can be a difficult task for students, especially freshers joining Makerere and other universities for the first time.
For Makerere Universities, while there are halls of residence – Nkrumah, Nsibirwa, Livingstone, University Hall, Mitchel, Africa, Mary Stuart and CCE Complex – these are few and cannot accommodate all the students.
This leaves thousands of students with no option but to seek accommodation in places like Kikoni and Kikumi Kikumi, which are outside the university.
With the housing industry in Uganda largely unregulated, businessmen have been establishing structures to accommodate students.
But a number of these do not meet the standards and do not feature in the list of hostels accredited and recognized by the university.
