FRESH ORDERS: No More Evictions without RDC’s Consent

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has issued new orders regarding land evictions in the country.

According to a statement by deputy presidential press secretary Faruk Kirunda, the District Security Committee (DSC), whose leader is the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), will have to approve all land evictions.

Kirunda quotes a letter dated February 28, 2022, that Museveni wrote to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja regarding the matter of land evictions.

The president is said to have directed that “no eviction should be allowed to take place in a district without the consent and direct observation of the DSC chaired by the resident district commissioners/resident city commissioners and direct consultation with the minister of Lands.”

The president has vowed to punish all RDCs in whose districts of jurisdiction illegal evictions take place.

The General from Rwakitura has also told chief justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo to rein in judicial officials to stop colluding with land grabbers to fuel unlawful evictions.

He also wants Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka to take legal action against judges and magistrates who collude with land grabbers.
