PLE 2024 Results Out Today: Here’s How Candidates, Parents & Schools Can Access, Download or Collect Results FOR THE LAST TIME: Deadline for Registration of Candidates Sitting Final Set of Exams Under Old Curriculum Approaches Reports of LEAKED MARKED PAPERS Raise Questions on PLE 2023 Grading System. Uneb Responds

Uneb executive secretary and director Dan Odongo

Assessment body Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has announced that its final registration phase for the Four Examinations (4Es) it conducts will end tomorrow, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, ending the exercise that has been ongoing for months.

The four examinations are: the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE- New Curriculum), UCE – Transitional Examination (Old Curriculum), and the end of A-level Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.

The exercise for registration of candidates for PLE, UCE and UACE started in March 2024. Uneb closed the normal registration exercise on May 31, 2024. Uneb centre numbers and candidates were given a grace period of one week to undertake or complete the exercise under the normal registration phase.

After the normal registration phase, Uganda National Examinations Board announced the late registration phase which happened through the month of June 2024. The following month, July 2024, was set aside for the final and latest phase of registration, according to Uneb.

Now, that last phase of registration is also ending tomorrow, July 31. “Thereafter, UNEB will not register any more candidates for 2024,” the assessment body emphasized.

Uganda National Examinations Board has also explained that candidates seeking to register under this final and latest phase of registration should be ready to pay a surcharge of 100 per cent of the original fees: Shs34,000 for PLE, Shs164,000 for UCE (whether under new curriculum or  ransitional exams for old curriculum), and Shs186,000 for UACE.

“Heads of Centres that intend to register candidates this year and have not done so are advised to make use of the last two days to do so,” Uneb advised.

Regarding transitional examinations based on the old curriculum, Uneb has made it clear those who miss out on the last will have no option but to complete their O-level under the new curriculum whose first cohort sit their examinations this year.

“The public is hereby reminded that this is the last time UNEB is assessing UCE learners based on the old curriculum. The Board has therefore given a chance to those who qualify to register for a one-off examination, the Transitional Examination, based on the old curriculum,” noted Uneb.

Uneb also listed the categories of candidates who qualify for registration for the transitional examinations. These include candidates who sat UCE in 2023 or earlier and would like to improve their grades; those who registered for UCE in 2023 or earlier but did not sit: and those who failed to register for UCE in 2023.

“These must have sat PLE in 2018 or earlier. Others include learners whose results were previously canceled due to examination malpractice,” Uneb added.

There is also a chance for adults aged 20 and above “who have never sat for PLE, but would like to get a UCE certificate can also register, as long as they show proof of age and seek permission from the UNEB Executive Director.”

Uneb further explained: “This last offer is only given to Ugandans. All those intending to run for political offices but do not have UCE certificates are specifically encouraged to register now for the transitional examination.”

It should be noted that the transitional examination will be conducted alongside the other UCE examination in October-November 2024, according to assessment body. Candidates for the transitional exams can be registered with private halls accredited by Uneb or other Uneb  examination Centers, including government owned Universal Secondary Education (USE) Schools.
