First son and Special Forces Command (SFC) head Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has urged fellow soldiers to fight to defend Uganda.
Lt Gen Kainerugaba’s call on men and women in uniform come just less than a week to the January 14 elections.
In power since 1986 following a five-year bush war, Kainerugaba’s father President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni is seeking to extend his rule to four decades.
Violence has characterized ‘scientific’ campaigns held since November 2020.
At least 54 people were killed in November 18 and 19 protests that followed the arrest and detention of candidates Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) of main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
The army was called in to reinforce police to quell the protests that saw roads blocked and supporters of ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) targeted by rioters.
Kainerugaba has now called on UPDF soldiers to defend their nation.
Like his father, the first son believes foreign elements are working with some opposition politicians to destabilize Uganda.
Both Museveni and Kainerugaba have warned nobody would throw the country into chaos.
The first son, who was recently reappointed SFC commandant and also retained his role as his father Museveni’s senior advisor on special security operations, also shared his code with the army officers.
The threefold code is to God, wife and nation.
“To my fellow UPDF soldiers…All my life I’ve lived by a code, and the code is simple! Honour Almighty God, love your wife and defend your country!” noted Kainerugaba on January 08 .
“Uganda is mother to us all! We must fight for her!”
