First son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has hit back at veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye for claiming that the corruption, nepotism and patronage under his father’s ‘monarchy’ have hurt all Ugandans.
In what looks like a war of words between the president’s son and Museveni’s fiercest critic for two decades, Besigye seeks to make Lt Kainerugaba that members of the first family are not immune to condemnation for allegedly engaging in corrupt deals.
On the other hand, Kainerugaba, the senior presidential advisor on special operations, wants Besigye to leave his wife Charlotte Nankunda out of his criticism on alleged Covid19 corrupt deals.
The first son was angry with the opposition leader for talking about delays and procurement irregularities for the supply of Covid19 oxygen plants for Mulago National Referral Hospital and Entebbe Grade B Hospital.
The deal involved Silverbacks Pharmacy Limited, owned by Kainerugaba’s wife Charlotte Nankunda, and her sister Ishta Asiimwe Muganga – both women being daughters of foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa.
Besigye called the scandal the First Family Bonanza “by Uganda’s NRM/M7 Junta “royals.”
In response, Kainerugaba reminded Besigye he was close to Museveni and even visited them in their home in Sweden.
The first son told off the opposition politician to leave his wife.
But in response, Besigye said he had nothing personal against Kainerugaba’s wife Charlotte but was fighting the evils the Museveni ‘monarchy’ has inflicted on ‘all Ugandans.”
“I am now attacking NRM/Museveni Junta CORRUPTION, PATRONAGE, NEPOTISM and a “PRESIDENTIAL MONARCHY” that hurts me & all Ugandans,” Besigye said.
Now, Kainerugaba has called out Besigye for exaggerating his father’s government’s failures. He also promised to talk about allegations of a Ugandan presidential monarch.
He wondered why Besigye claimed ‘all’ Ugandans were hurt by the Museveni administration yet continued to overwhelmingly vote him.
“We can discuss ‘Presidential Monarchy’ and the other allegations another time,” responded Kainerugaba.
“But clearly it can’t be hurting ‘all’ our people when Mzee Museveni wins elections with landslides”
