First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba: I’m a simple Munyankore Pastoralist

by Pearl Times Reporter
July 18, 2021

First son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has described himself as a simple Munyankore pastoralist who has met great people and made them his friends the world over.

Sharing a photo showing him posing with international stars Kanye West and Kim Kardashian when they visited Uganda three years ago, the first son, said he was “a simple Munyankore pastoralist standing between two American superstars.”

He described Kanye West and Kim Kardashian as “our friends” and wished them “the best that life can offer.”

But the first son is not just a simple Munyankore pastoralist. He is a top officer of the national army the UPDF and a man rumored to be in his father’s succession queue.

Just weeks ago, his father President Museveni appointed him the UPDF Commander Land Forces (CLF) after months of his return as the commandant of the elite Special Forces Command (SFC).

SFC is the unit in charge of presidential security.

In his mid-40s, Kainerugaba is a Lieutenant General.

His elevation in the UPDF ranks was a subject of public debate after former spy master Gen David Tinyefuuza aka Sejusa claimed there was a plot to eliminate top army and government officials opposed to what he called the ‘Muhoozi Project.’

Under this project, Museveni would prepare his son to succeed him.

Although both Kainerugaba and Museveni dismissed Sejusa’s claims, they made it clear there was nothing wrong with the first son becoming president if Ugandans elected him.

In 2020, Kainerugaba said his enemies had sought to use the Muhoozi Project idea to destroy him but his generation had turned what they thought would be a curse into a blessing.
