First son Muhoozi Kainerugaba: Gen Tumwine is a living legend, and so loyal to my father Museveni

First son and Special Forces Command (SFC) chief Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has praised security minister Gen Elly Tumwine for his contribution and loyalty to the Yoweri Kaguta Museveni-led liberation struggle.

Now security minister, Gen Tumwine is said to have fired the first shot that began the National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war.

During this war, Tumwine lost one of his eyes.

Yet Tumwine’s liberation work did not begin with the NRA war.

A year after he graduated from Makerere University in 1977, he had paused his teaching career to join Museveni’s FRONASA forces.

It is such engagements and roles that Lt Kainerugaba, also Museveni’s senior presidential advisor on special operations, is basing on to salute Tumwine.

‘General Elly Tumwine is a living legend. The man who fired the first shot of the liberation war,” wrote Kainerugaba.

“He has been unfailingly loyal to our leader, General Museveni, for almost 60 years. We salute you sir. You are a hero!”

In response, Tumwine told the first son he has prioritized service above self.

“Thank you Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for your kind words,” replied Gen Tumwine.

“For us, it was and will forever be service above self. Asiye Kifani.”
