First son and Chief of Land Forces (CLF) Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is embroiled in a war of words with opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye’s wife Winnie Byanyima, also the UNAIDS Executive Director, over the Tigray-Ethiopian conflict/
It all started with Lt Gen Kainerugaba’s views on the conflict in the horn of Africa.
“I urge my great and brave brothers in the Tigrayan Defence Forces to listen to the words of General Yoweri Museveni! I am as angry as you and I support your cause. Those who raped our Tigrayan sisters and killed our brothers must be punished!” said Kainerugaba.
But Byanyima said the CLF’s statement could case trouble for Ugandans in Ethiopia.
The UNAIDS boss urged the first son to delete the comment.
“Please delete this tweet. It is risking the lives of Ugandans working and living in Ethiopia,” pleaded Besigye’s wife.
In response, Kainerugaba said he was happy to hear from Byanyima after three decades.
He then explained to Byanyima why he thinks the Ethiopian government should carry its cross.
“Madame Winnie. Good to hear from you. It’s been a long time. I last saw you in SH [State House] in 1987,” wrote the first son.
“It is the responsibility of the Ethiopian government to protect all citizens and visitors in Addis and the rest of the country. If the TDF [Tigray Defence Forces] is doing it in areas they control, why shouldn’t the government?”
