Dr Monica Musenero, the minister in charge of Science, Technology and Innovation, has sworn she didn’t misuse any money as alleged by whistleblowers and Ntungamo Municipality MP Yona Musinguzi.
Minister Musenero is accused of misusing between Shs31bn and Shs60bn meant for the development of Covid19 vaccines under the PRESIDE project. Read more of these allegations here.
On November 10, deputy speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among unveiled a select committee of Parliament that will investigate allegations against Musenero.
But the minister insists she is innocent.
Speaking in Kampala on November 10, Musenero said she has had a great record of accountability and that her enemies just want to soil her image.
“Just before I was appointed presidential advisor I was working in the World Health Organization. So, my ethic of work is far above what these people are trying to lower me to,” she said.
“I have been working for years in jobs which pay. I don’t need to steal government money. Not only that, I work to produce the value more than what money is given. Those who know me, know I can’t eat anyone’s money. If I found that money I would take it to the police.”
She also swore she didn’t touch the money, which she insists was handled before she was even appointed minister. She now wants those who dealt with the money to carry their cross, in case things went wrong.
“They [officials she found at MoSTI] treat everybody like a floating piece of something that you toss around politically but in this nation some people have to put their hands in the mud and work and we should leave them alone,” noted Musenero.
“I don’t touch money. This money was spent by the former ministry. I am beginning to wonder if people did something inside there because they are the ones who were spending the money, now they are calling me out.”
