‘Fired’ Police Boss Starts Private Security Firm

Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye is a popular fellow on microblogging site Twitter. Before he was sent into retirement months ago, he was the person many netizens ran to whenever they had a problem that needed police intervention. Even when he is finally out of the Uganda Police Force (UPF) uniform, Kasingye is still the police guy some netizens seek police help from.

While many netizens would have no problem giving Kasingye another term in the police service (if they wielded the power to do so), Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni had clearly decided on not renewing the amiable long-serving cop. It appears Gen Museveni was wary of the officers from the Gen Kale Kayihura era of UPF.

Days after Museveni declined to renew his contract, Kasingye came out to trash reports that he was ‘fired,’ as well as others that he had resigned. He sounded hopeful that he would bounce back into the police force, even as he handed over the office of chief political commissar. (See details Here).

But it later became clear that Gen Museveni was not going to recall him. So, Kasingye began looking for ways of living his ‘katebe life.’ From writing a book about to helping an NGO get on its feet, Kasingye, who previously served at police spokesperson, tried to fit in his retirement life, a life outside a government office.

Still energetic, Kasingye has now teamed up with like-minded individuals to start a private security firm. AIGP (Rtd) Kasingye is the director of operations at Tayari Security Ltd, a company that is promising ‘professional and robust security services.’

“New on the private security terrain. Professional and Robust Security Services. Trained and managed by the best. Contact me; partner and director operations,” Kasingye told his nearly 700K Twitter followers, some of whom might soon be clients for the Yusuf Lule Road-based firm.

In May last year, Kasingye wondered how civilians survive in Uganda after a receptionist blocked him from seeing a bank manager for two hours. (Read shocking experience HERE).
