A Monday, December 11, 2023, fire has gutted City House, the headquarters of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao’s Democratic Party (DP).
The building also houses a number of businesses, including a commercial bank branch Bata shop, a pharmacy and a betting company.
There were also some people residing in the building.
The cause of the morning fire remains unknown.
Uganda Police Force (UPF) Fire Brigade rushed to the scene to try and contain the fire.
Officers cordoned off Luwum Street as they attempted to contain the fire. Smoke was seen billowing from the building.
Some traders managed to save a few goods from the building.
Property worth millions of Shillings is said to have been lost.
One person was confirmed dead in the fire.
