President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has approved a proposal by his wife and education and sports Minister Janet Kataaha Museveni to have schools reopened in a phased manner.
In a September 16 meeting, attended by members of the National Covid19 Taskforce, as well as officials from the Ministry of Health and that of Education and Sports, President Museveni okayed proposals for the reopening of schools as The Pearl Times has reported in recent stories on this matter.
What now remains is for Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to work with officials from the ministries of health and education to draft guidelines to be followed.
Nabbanja will also work with Minister Ms Museveni to work out a final school program for recovery of lost time and continuity of learning.
Also expected as early as next week is the revised school calendar after a previously released one was disrupted by the second wave of the Covid19 pandemic.
According to sources who attended the meeting, classes which had had less of learning time or had not returned at all by the time schools were ordered closed in June 2021 will be given priority when education institutions reopen soon.
Part of the syllabus will also be reduced.
Also worth noting is that there will be shorter holidays and Saturdays will be included on the school week.
