Anthony Akol, an opposition FDC MP, is leading his colleagues from Northern Uganda to meet the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), whose chairman is President Museveni, to discuss the position of deputy speaker of Parliament.
On March 24 morning, Akol, the Kilak North MP and chairperson of the Acholi Parliamentary Group, told NBS Morning Breeze that 15 MPs will represent their colleagues in the meeting with NRM’s CEC.
Each of the sub-regions in Northern Uganda — Acholi, Lango and West Nile — will send five representatives to the meeting.
The Pearl Times has since learnt that Museveni is meeting the MPs at State House Nakasero.
The position of deputy speaker, which most of the Northern Uganda MPs want ringfenced for someone from their region, fell vacant on March 23 after NRM CEC endorsed Anita Among as flagbearer in the race to replace late speaker Jacob Oulanyah. (Read Story Here).
The NRM has not yet announced their flagbearer for the deputy speaker job.
But Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa is said to be one of the top politicians interested in the seat. (Read Story Here).
