Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Mawokota South MP-elect Yusuf Nsibambi as candidates for the speaker and deputy speaker positions, respectively, in the 11th Parliament.
FDC national chairman Wasswa Birigwa made the announcement during a press conference at the party headquarters at Najjanankumbi in Kampala on April 19.
“I am happy to announce that a decision has been reached by the party through its top organs, the working committee, the Parliamentary caucus and the National Executive Council (NEC) to front the Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Hon. Yussuf Nsibammbi to contest for the positions of Speaker and deputy speaker of the 11th Parliament respectively,” said Birigwa.
Ssemujju will face Democratic Party (DP) candidate Richard Ssebamala, and either incumbent speaker Rebecca Kadaga or her deputy Jacob Oulanyah of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
On the other hand, Nsibambi will face MPs Anita Among, Thomas Tayebwa and Robina Rwakoojo, among others.
