The family of the departed former Democratic Party (DP) President General Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere has released the provisional burial program for the respected political giant.
Dr Ssemogerere died early Friday, November 18, 2022 morning. He was 90 years old. According to the family, the former DP president will be laid to rest on Monday in Nkumba if the government does not ask the Ssemogerere to change the program to include some state funeral activities.
According to the late political stalwart’s son Karoli Ssemogerere, vigil services will be held at the Family Residence located at 401 Stensera Road, Lubaga Kyaddondo on Saturday, November 19, 2022, startng at 2pm.
Karoli further noted that a requiem mass will be held at the Lubaga Cathedral on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 11am. On Monday, November 21, 2022, a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1955 Nattale Nkumba Bufulu opposite Wagagai in Busiro, Wakiso District, starting at 12 noon. Karoli added: “Changes may come in due course.”
Several opposition DP leaders have called on government to honour Ssemogerere a state funeral. A funeral committee has been constituted. It includes Ssemogerere’s younger brother John Baptist Kawanga, Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago and MP Dr Lulume Bayiga.
The Democratic Party secretary general Gerald Siranda said they planning an event to enable the party members and leaders pay their last respects to the man who led the DP for 25 years. There is expected to be the public viewing of Ssemogerere’s body.
