Reports that speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah could be dead have hit social media since March 15.
Oulanyah was rushed to the US in February 2022. (Read Story Here).
His condition was said to be worrying then.
Deputy speaker Anita Annet Among would later tell Parliament that Oulanyah was in a better state. (Read Story Here).
Now, claims that Oulanyah was dead have hit social media.
The rumors were sparked by an update on Wikipedia which declared Oulanyah dead. (Read Story Here).
But Parliament’s director of communication (spokesperson) Chris Obore says Ugandans should “ignore speculation.”
Obore also says that deputy speaker Among “is the only person to inform MPs and public like she did when he was taken to the US.”
On March 15, Among suspended the house sine die to check on her boss in the US.
Among is expected to give an update on Oulanyah’s health in coming hours or even days.
This is not the first time Oulanyah is announced dead by fake news mongers.
Weeks ago, some people had claimed that the speaker and Omoro County MP had died. But these reports were later debunked. (Read Story Here).
