Police in Kampala have revealed the identity of a woman who runs an NGO that is accused of trafficking girls and forcinh them to sleep with dogs.
Officers rescued at least 14 girls, between the ages of four and 19 from a guest house in Muyenga, Makindye Division in Kampala.
Police say that an informer had told them the girls were always seen carrying dogs.
That they had also been forced to sleep with the dogs in the same room and beds.
“A whistle blower at the guest house got concerned that the care taker, Ndagire, was making the girls share the same room and bed with the puppies,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
“The concerned citizen also said that the girls were always seen moving with, and carrying the dogs all the time.”
Owoyesigyire identified the woman as Dorothy Ndagire, the director of Maya Project Uganda Chapter, a local NGO.
Ndagire, 27, is a resident of Kawala Central Zone in Rubaga Division, Kampala.
Her NGO is reportedly funded by partners in London, UK.
Ndagire, currently under arrest, faces charges of trafficking in persons.
The girls are now staying with a proffesional children’s home as police intensifies efforts to trace their parents.
Police has now called on parents who could have willingly or unwillingly given their children to the said Ndagire to follow up with Kabalagala Police.
“While Police has already established that the NGO is NOT registered with the NGO board, further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the group behind this vice and their intention,” said Owoyesigyire.
