EXCLUSIVE: Kadaga rubbishes Salaamu Musumba calls for ‘peace talks’

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has reportedly rejected nemesis and former Kamuli Woman MP contestant Salaamu Musumba’s calls for an out-of-court settlement, Pearl Times News desk has learnt.

Musumba recently filed a petition in the High Court in Jinja challenging Kadaga’s election as district woman MP.

Kadaga won the poll with over 90,000 votes, with Musumba coming second with just over 20,000 votes.

The FDC Vice Chairperson however claims that the vote was hugely marred by fraudulent events such as vote bribery, tampering with electoral results and the Electoral Commission exhibiting ‘shameful’ levels of bias.

As such, through her lawyers of Galisonga and Company Advocates and Isabirye and Company Advocates, Musumba had sought court to overturn Kadaga’s victory and organize fresh free and fair elections.

Now, sources have told to this news publication that Musumba’s lawyer Galisonga called Kadaga’s Principal Private Secretary Peter Busiku offering an out of court settlement, an offer that Kadaga vehemently rejected.

“Galisonga called at the office today around 4pm calling for peace talks between Mama Kadaga and Salaamu Musumba but Mama has rejected the offer,” claimed an insider in Speaker Kadaga’s office.

Last week, Musumba told Pearl Times News that she was willing to hold talks with Kadaga but not ready to back down out of intimidation.

“The people of Busoga should know that I am a Musoga like them. They cannot intimidate me into defeat because I am the mother of that game,” said Musumba.

“If anyone wants to talk to me, I am always available but not scared of any such machinations aimed at gagging me.”

Our sources further revealed that Kadaga has vowed not to pay a single coin to Musumba, insisting she would rather give that money to her constituents for development.

She thus asked them to use the same avenues they followed while lodging the case to withdraw it but not plotting to extort her.
