Residents in the districts of Buhweju and Bushenyi were left jubilating after Kilembe Investments Limited (KIL), the leading electricity power supplier in Western Uganda, commissioned two power lines in the two districts.

The two lines commissioned are Kyeizooba Feeder in Bushenyi District, with 13 transformers having 17.9km of medium voltage and 67.4km of low voltage as well as Malinde Feeder with capacity of 57.6km of low voltage, 18.6km of medium voltage and 15 transformers.

The company also opened up a new branch in Nyakaziba Trading Center in Buhweju District. This branch will be used as a service center to ensure provision of quality services to clients.

With its head office located along Rwenzori Road in Kasese Municipality, Kilembe Investments Limited has other branches in Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council, Katerera Town Council in Rubirizi District and Kabwohe in Sheema District.

Speaking to The Pearl Times shortly after the commissioning, Jane Masika Birungi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kilembe Investments Limited, noted that the company will continue to undertake community sensitization on safety and productive uses of electricity to save lives from electrical dangers and enable rural transformation, respectively, for economic development.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja was the chief guest at the Bihanga Church function and she politically commissioned the power line for KIL to fully operate.

CEO Birungi also noted that the project will benefit some parts of Kasese District, including Isango, Buhuhira and Bwesumbu sub-counties.

She further urged locals to use the project for productive purposes so as to promote economic development. She emphasized the need for community members to use power to earn a living by setting up income-generating businesses such as welding workshops, salons and mills.

In related development, the CEO also revealed that the company will tomorrow commission another power feeder in Ibanda District.

Similarly, Birungi also revealed that locals residing along the Ibanda Feeder Line in Busongora North, Kasese District will soon have smiles on their faces after the completion of the permanent alternative supply along Mubuku-Maliba line connecting to Nkenda substation to give reliable power supply to Ibanda, Bugoye, Maliba Kyanya and surrounding areas.

She also saluted Government of Uganda for the support, through Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) watchdog Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA). It is this support that has enable KIL to achieve this milestone.

CEO Birungi was optimistic that the alternative line would solve the problem of load shedding in the area. The commissioning means that very soon, several homes will be lit and cottage industries as well as other investments will be able to thrive better than they have been doing.

Meanwhile, Kilembe Investments Limited has decried cases of vandalism which has led to multi-million losses. (See Details Here).
