Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has explained that police chief IGP Martins Okoth Ochola was absent at the requiem service for Maj Gen Paul Lokech because “his blood pressure shot up” on the sudden news of his deputy.
Maj Gen Lokech suddenly died at his home in Buwate in Wakiso District’s Kira Division.
A postmortem report indicated that Lokech succumbed to a blood clot.
As part of the fallen UPDF officer’s burial program, on August 25, a requiem service happened at Lokech’s home in Kitikifumba Village in Kira.
Several top officials in government, and Uganda Police Force (UPF) as expected, attended.
But IGP Ochola’s absence raised questions.
Brig Gen Jack Bakasumba, the Police Joint Chief of Staff, represented Ochola.
And as usual, Enanga had an explanation.
“The IGP’s personal doctor is managing him, that is why he was not able to be with us,” said Enanga.
“His blood pressure shot up when he received news of the death of Maj Gen Lokech.”
