Embarrassing: Why Bobi Wine’s campaign in Museveni’s Kiruhura is the worst so far

Wherever he has gone, National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu seemed to have had warm welcomes.

Despite episodes of security interference, Bobi Wine has pulled crowds to his campaign venues.

The crowds and the enthusiasm at these rallies is difficult to explain – whether these are supporters yearning for change or fans of a music icon.

With the difference between politics supporters and music fans just weeks away from being clearly understood when results of the January 14 poll trickle in, Bobi Wine expected warm receptions wherever he went.

Yet for Kiruhura, where Museveni hails from, Bobi Wine faced embarrassing scenes with posters of Museveni being flashed before him.

Pro-Museveni chants were also heard as Bobi Wine made his way through Rushere Town.

The Bobi Wine team claims Museveni had planned the disruption by hiring people to distribute posters and yellow t-shirts at the time the NUP presidential candidate was expected in the district.

Some people who claimed were from the area alleged they were harassed for supporting the youthful singer-turned-politician.

But supporters of Museveni argued the president had done a lot for them and Uganda and deserved another term.

Some even reminded Bobi Wine power rests in Luwero and Kiruhura, not Magere-Wakiso where he stays.

Kiruhura predominantly votes NRM and Museveni.

Earlier, police had blocked Bobi Wine’s convoy, insisting on checking his vehicles.
