Electricity Company Records Huge Losses Over Vandalism, Power Theft

Kilembe Investment Limited, a power company supplying a number of districts in Western Uganda, has registered business-threatening losses over vandalism.

Jane Birungi Masika, the Chief Executive Officer of Kilembe Investment Limited, says that the increased cases of vandalism of company’s properties within their area of operation have affected the reliability of supply to their clients and cost them hundreds of millions of shillings.

According to CEO Birungi, every month, the company loses a number of its properties, which translates into a Shs200m loss.

Speaking to The Pearl Times at her office in Kasese Town, Masika noted that criminal elements vandalize electricity wires, transformers, meter boxes.

She also decried persistent cases of illegal power connection, a situation that has driven the company into losses worth billions annually.

The Kilembe Investment Limited CEO warned the public against engaging in cases of vandalism, power theft and illegal connections, making it clear that whoever will be caught taking part in such vices will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of Uganda.

Meanwhile, Masika has also revealed that locals residing along the Ibanda feeder line in Busongora North will soon have smiles on their faces after the completion of Mubuku one Dam which will permanently supply power the local communities.

She was optimistic that the Mubuku One Dam would solve the problem of load shedding. Vandalism has remained a challenge in the Electricity Supply Industry.
