Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) has confirmed the arrest of Haman Rujjumba for knocking dead PC Bosco Owili while on duty in Kabalagala, Kampala.

“It is alleged that Police Constable Number 48518 Bosco Owili attached to Field Force Unit Kabalagala Police Station while on his lawful duty was knocked dead by a speeding motorist,” said KMP deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.

“The vehicle driver has been identified as Haman Rujjumba, who was driving a BMW registration number UAP 122Z, grey in colour, has been arrested on a range of offences.”

Owoyesigyire added that PC Owili was riding a motorcycle registration number UP 7965 Yamaha blue in colour on Ggaba Road near Kampala International University (KIU), Kansanga, when Rujjumba knocked him using his car which he was recklessly driving.

Owoyesigyire quoted eye witnesses as saying that “the driver dragged the officer under his car for ten metres from the first contact.”

“A team of police officers led by Kabalagala Police Station Acting Commander responded to the scene where they identified deceased police officer’s body, police motorcycle, a SMG AK47 and a damaged magazine,” continued Owoyesigyire.

“The body was conveyed to the city mortuary for a postmortem. The recovered equipment including the suspect’s vehicle were later exhibited awaiting inspection.”

Police would later arrest Rujjumba from Rock Clinic in Church Zone where he was said to have been hiding.

The hideout was “a stone throwaway,” from the scene of crime, noted the police publicist.

“Bouncers of Pyramid Bar had hidden him there,” he added.

Owoyesigyire further revealed that Rujjumba was drunk and had nearly rammed into other police officers at one of the checkpoints.

“The investigations has revealed that the same driver almost knocked our officers at the check point as he drove passed them before the fatal incident,” noted Owoyesigyire.

“The suspect was subjected to a breathalyser test and he found to have taken alcohol above the lawful limit.”
