Germina Namatovu Ssemogerere, the widow of Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere, the fallen former president general of the Democratic Party (DP), has emphasized her late husband’s calls on change-seeking forces and other Ugandans never to use forceful means of wrestling power from Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, the man who has clung on it for nearly four decades.

Dr Kawanga Ssemogerere passed on this Friday, November 18, 2022 at his home in Rubaga in the capital Kampala. His brother John Baptist Kawanga revealed that Dr Ssemogerere collapsed on his bed and breathed his last on return from the bathroom. (Read Details Here).

Apart from holding the position of DP President General for many years, Dr Kawanga Ssemogerere also served as minister of internal affairs, minister of public service, minister of foreign affairs and deputy prime minister in Museveni’s NRM government. (Read Dr Kawanga Ssemogerere’s quick profile Here).

Kawanga Ssemogerere ran for president against both Dr Apollo Milton Obote of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Gen Museveni of the NRM. In the race against Obote in the 1980 election, some strongly believe that Ssemogerere won the election and should have gone to State House if Obote had not rigged the poll.

While Dr Ssemogerere kept peace, Museveni of the Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM), who had performed poorly, led young people into the bush over the rigged election that he would mostly likely not have won even if the poll had been free and fair. Dr Ssemogerere would go on to work with Museveni, a man who had sought blood-letting means to get power.

Now, Dr Ssemogerere is no more but his warning to Ugandan opposition leaders has been emphasized by his wife Germina Namatovu who told mourners on Saturday, November 19, 2022, that their family will never tolerate anyone who wants to use violence to gain access to State House and state power.

“I want to emphasize that Paul [Kawanga Ssemogerere] always told us never to shed blood and justify coups to enter State House,” Ssemogerere’s widow said. “Our home will never tolerate any acts of violence or torture in the name of getting power.”

Meanwhile, some of the shocking things that Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere put in his will and warned his family members never to do on his funeral have been revealed. (See Details Here).
