DON’T DARE: Janet Museveni Delivers Clear Warning to Schools Planning to Increase Fees

First lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni has warned schools against increasing school fees.

Schools across the country will officially reopen their gates to learners for second term on May 09.

But as has been the habit, some schools always increase fees almost every term, depending on the prevailing economic conditions.

With the current rise in fuel and commodity prices, some schools had already communicated increment of fees, such as those related to transport.

Now, Ms Museveni has told school administrators not to dare increase school fees, assuring parents that the education ministry’s new statutory instrument will help regulate school fees and save them from the burden of incessant fees increments.

On May 04, the minister and first lady told reporters at State House Nakasero that the ministry would soon begin consultations on the fees statutory instrument.

“My Ministry will soon be embarking on the process of consulting the various stakeholders about the Statutory Instrument that we have drafted to regulate school fees and other charges in our education institutions of learning,” said Ms Museveni.

“Once this exercise is completed and the instrument is taken through the necessary processes, as government, we shall be in a better position on how best to regulate school fees and school charges.”
