Former Ugandan Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has reportedly been rushed to a hospital in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), in critical condition. It is said that ex-VP Ssekandi’s health condition became a matter of concern as the elderly politician who served as the country’s number two for a decade was on a flight.

Ex-VP Ssekandi was said to be travelling back to Uganda from the United States where he had reportedly been on holiday. It was not readily clear what what disease was ailing Ssekandi, who was until 2021 an MP for Bukoto Central when the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate lost to Richard Sebamala of the Democratic Party (DP).

Ssekandi was reportedly rushed to Rashid Hospital when the plane landed in Dubai. Reports further claim that Ssekandi was with his grandson on the flight and that it is this young man attending to the ex-VP, former speaker of Parliament and veteran lawyer, who is 80 years old, having been born in the year 1942.

On instructions from Kampala, the Ugandan Embassy in the UAE is expected to ensure that the elderly former law maker gets the best medical treatment he needs so that his health can be restored as soon as possible. The Ugandan government was yet to officially speak about the ex-VP’s health condition. But if the reports are anything to go by, The Pearl Times would like to wish Mr Ssekandi a quick recovery.

Other reports suggest that Ssekandi is healthy and well, and not in hospital as reported. It is also said that the former vice president is expected to return back to Uganda soon. That Ssekandi was just on holiday with his wife in the US and that none of them is sick.

It should be remembered that in January 2021, there were reports that the former vice president was sick but Ssekandi came out and rubbished the reports. “Reports that I was hospitalised are unfounded and should be disregarded. I swear I have not been sick as reported by my detractors,” he was quoted by Daily Monitor as saying on January 27, 2021.

Reports of Ssekandi’s health condition come as surprising to many who have seen him in public recently. As we reported a few weeks ago, the former Vice President was recently pictured with his wife on a beach ‘eating life with a big spoon.’ (See Photos and Details Here).

Ssekandi had also been involved in a legal battle with a woman (said to have been his side dish), who accused the ex-VP of abandoning her and the children he fathered with her, as well as throwing them out of his house and other properties. (Read Stories Here and There).
