Eron Kiiza of Kiiza & Mugisha Advocates has claimed that his client, detained Ugandan writer Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, was tortured.
Security operatives picked Rukirabashaija, the author of The Greedy Barbarian, from his home in Kisaasi, Kampala, last week.
The Ugandan novelist’s arrest and detention happened hours after a war of words between him and supporters of the first son, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Twitter.
Fellow writer Dr Stella Nyanzi has since written a poem to Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, offering her body in exchange for Rukirabashaija’s freedom.
Now, according to lawyer Kiiza, Rukirabashaija has been tortured while in detention.
Kiiza also said Rukirabashaija’s other home in Iganga had been searched.
He went on to claim that the novelist was “urinating blood, vomiting” and had “swollen legs, blood stains.”
The lawyer also insisted that Rukirabashaija was “clearly tortured” and that he “needs urgent medication and counseling.”
