Defiant Ingrid Turinawe refuses to leave FDC

Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe, the dismissed secretary for mobilization for main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has refused to leave the party pending a decision by the delegates’ conference.

On December 10, it emerged that FDC secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi had expelled Turinawe from FDC for standing as an independent in Rukungiri Municipality.

Four months ago, Turinawe and incumbent MP Rolland Kaginda Mugume lost to Dr Wallen Tumwine Nuwagaba in the Rukungiri Municipality primary election.

However, she decided to run as an independent.

After news of Mafabi expelling her from the party, the party’s mobiliser said she would not leave the party until the party’s delegates’ conference has decided so.

“These are my two fingers and I will wave them the way I want,” she said.

“All these people you see in Rukungiri, they know me; they know what FDC is, they know what I can offer to them.”

She told her opponent Nuwagaba to stay calm and hunt for votes instead of going through Najjanankumbi to ward her off.

Turinawe claims Nuwagaba is afraid of the support she enjoys among the voters of Rukungiri Municipality.

She further accused the party of double standards.

“Hon John Kikonyogo is currently the vice spokesperson of the party, and he contested as an independent against Hon [Joyce] Sebugwawo, the mayor of Rubaga. Why is he now the vice spokesperson of the party?”
