A man has died in a 120ft pit at former junior labour minister Mwesigwa Rukutana’s home in Kampala.
The incident happned on April 22 at Rukutana’s home located in Upper Buziga, Makindye Division, Kampala.
The man, named Mathias Kwesigwa, remains stuck in the shaduf for a water system he was digging after it cave in and buried him 120ft deep.
Attempts by officers from the Fire Prevention and Rescue services Unit of Uganda Police Force (UPF) to try and recover the body have been futile given the depth.
Meanwhile, a similar incident happened in Kyotera District’s Kyakudduse Cell in Kasaali Town Council.
A one Amir Kavuma had brought Eng Ramathan Kiwanuka from Kampala to help him revamp his well.
Kiwanuka was going to be paid Shs800,000 for going through the 130ft pit and making renovations.
But Kavuma and locals were concerned after failing to communicate with Kiwanuka for almost one hour.
A one Robert Ssebayigga was tasked to enter the deep pit to establish what had happened to Eng Kiwanuka.
Ssebayigga did not return either.
It was later discovered that both Kiwanuka and Ssebayigga suffocated in the pit.
Their bodies were retrieved from the pit by officers from UPF’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Services.
