The Anti-Corruption Court has issued criminal summons against Joshua Abaho, the Senior Assistant Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister who worked with Mary Goretti Kitutu Kimono, the Minister for Karamoja Affairs.
Abaho was not in court as Minister Kitutu appeared to be formally charged for her role in the mabaati scandal. At the instance of the Office of the DPP, a criminal summons was issued by the court for the attendance of Abaho.
On Thursday, April 06, 2023, Kitutu appeared at the Anti-Corruption Court and pleaded not guilty to charges of loss of public property and conspiracy to defraud, arising from the diversion of iron sheets meant for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.
The minister was charged with Abaho who has been charged with corruption and conspiracy to defraud.
Michael Naboya Kitutu, the Minister’s brother, was charged with receiving stolen property. Naboya also pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The Minister applied for bail and the court heard submissions from her Counsel and the Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court adjourned the matter to Wednesday April 12 when it will deliver its ruling, and accordingly remanded the accused persons.
This means that Minister Kitutu will spend her Easter holidays in Luzira Prison after being denied bail. (See Details Here).
