Court Martial Chairman Lt Gen Andrew Gutti has released Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s music partner Ali Buken aka Nubian Li, his bodyguard Eddy Ssebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe, and producer Daniel Brenny Oyerwot aka Dan Magic, and 15 others on bail after they spent six months on remand.
Sitting at Makindye, the Court Martial set tough conditions, touching on travel and reporting to court.
Each of the 18 were bailed at Shs20m non-cash and so were their sureties.
Lt Gen Gutti warned he would cancel the NUP supporters’ bail if they travelled out of Kampala and Wakiso.
The bail would also be withdrawn if they failed to report to court twice a month –every fortnightly.
The 18 were part of the 49 supporters of singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine arrested on December 30, 2020 during the NUP leader’s campaign in Kalangala District.
Their fate would take a dramatic turn after a Masaka Magistrate’s Court grahted them bail, only for them to be rearrested and detained at Makindye Military Barracks.
Their bail application has previously been blocked by the state on claims that they would incite violence.
They would then be arraigned before the Court Martial at Makindye.
In the military court, prosecution alleged that on January 3, 2021 while at Makerere- Kavule, Kiggundu Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala, the suspects were found in possession of four rounds of live ammunition of AK47 which are ordinarily a monopoly of the defence forces.
They were charged with unlawful possession of firearms, detained at Kitalya Prison for almost six months.
