Uganda’s national army, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched air strikes against Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels operating in the eastern part of DR Congo.
Following a spate of terrorist attacks in Uganda, Kampala had expressed readiness to hunt down ADF rebels.
But Uganda needed permission from Kinshasa before launching the strikes.
Now, UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso has confirmed that the national army has started efforts to flush ADF rebels out of DR Congo.
The strikes are a joint operation between UPDF and the DR Congo army.
They are targeting the terrorist groups camps.
“This morning, we have launched joint air and artillery strikes against ADF camps with our Congolese allies,” tweeted Brig Gen Byekwaso.
