CONFIRMED: Museveni Rewards ‘Age Limit Removal Promoter’ Ex-MP Simeo Nsubuga With Juicy Commissioner Job

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has appointed former Uganda Police Force (UPF) Spokesperson and ex-Kassanda South MP Simeo Nsubuga with a commissioner job. 

Simeo Nsubuga was a member of the Rebecca Kadaga-led 10th Parliament which removed the presidential age limit from the country’s Constitution, making it possible for Gen Museveni to stand for reelection as the impoverished East African country’s ruler.

A member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Simeo Nsubuga was one of the vocal promoters of the push for the removal of the presidential age limit. The other loud promoters were then Igara West MP and now Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi.

Had the constitutional age limit been untampered with, Gen Museveni would have been ineligible for reelection in 2021. But thanks to men like Nsubuga’s efforts, Museveni secured a five-year term at the end of which he will have ruled Uganda for a cool four decades in a row.

Simeo Nsubuga was one of the NRM MPs that lost the 2021 parliamentary elections, especially as singer and politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) wave swept across Buganda sub region.

On katebe and in the political cold since then, Nsubuga can now breathe after Gen Museveni remembered him and appointed him as a commissioner of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) whose chairperson is Mariam Fauzat Wangadya, a former Deputy Inspector General of Government (D-IGG).

Also appointed to the commission are: Col Stephen Basaliza, and Omara Apita.

These will replace two commissioners whose terms expired and had not been renewed as well as former ethics and integrity minister Fr Simon Lokodo who died months ago while representing Uganda in Switzerland. (Read Story Here).

It is common to console his NRM cadres who lose elections and those he drops from his cabinet with jobs as commissioners and advisors or directors in government agencies.

For example, in June 2021, Museveni consoled a number of ministers he dropped from cabinet by giving them presidential advisor jobs. (Read Story Here).
