Uganda’s President Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has given Henry Luke Orombi, the former Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda, a government job as an overseer of an education institution.
Born in Packwach 73 years ago, Orombi was the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala from 2004 up to December 2012 when he retired. Leaving his office nearly two years to his time of official retirement, Archbishop Orombi was succeeded by Stanley Ntagali whose successor is Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, the current Archbishop.
Now, 10 years after his retirement as Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Orombi has landed a government job, with Gen Museveni appointing him as the Chancellor of Muni University, one of the public universities in the country.
The Chancellor is the titular head of the University and he is supposed to preside over all the ceremonial assemblies of the university. The University Chancellor confers degrees and other academic titles and distinctions to students. The Chancellor is appointed by the President of the Republic of Uganda on the recommendation of the University Council, in accordance with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001.
Gen Museveni used his powers under this law to appoint Orombi Muni University Chancellor in an instrument he signed on September 28, 2022. “In Exercise of the Powers vested in the President by Section 30(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 and acting on the recommendation of the University Council I, YOWERI KAGUTA MUSEVENI DO HEREBY APPOINT BISHOP HENRY LUKE OROMBI as CHANCELLOR OF MUNI UNIVERSITY,” wrote Museveni in an instrument of appointment.
