President Uhuru Kenyatta has confirmed the death of his predecessor, Former President Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki.
President Kenyatta lauded Kibaki as a man who “will forever be remembered as a gentleman in Kenyan politics” and “a brilliant debater.”
Kibaki was sworn in as Kenya’s third president on December 30, 2002.
He was Head of State and Government, until April 09, 2013.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared a national mourning period in memory of the late Kibaki, starting today until sunset on the day of his interment.
“May the family of the late Mwai Kibaki be comforted, his memory honored and his example emulated,” said Kenyatta.
