Former Daily Monitor photojournalist Alex Esagala has landed a juicy job at Parliament of Uganda.
Esagala has confirmed that he will be the senior press secretary to Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
He was working closely with Tayebwa, the Ruhinda North MP, while the NRM legislator was still serving as Chief Government Whip.
But with the death of Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, new faces holding the positions of speaker and deputy speaker sought people they would work with well.
Esagala had previously been reported to have been hired as Deputy Speaker Tayebwa’s Chief Photographer, with his former Daily Monitor colleague Dominic Bukenya as Speaker Anita Among’s Chief Photographer.
But the award-winning photojournalist has now confirmed that his contract as Tayebwa’s Senior Press Secretary (SPS) has been approved.
“Friends, I’m happy to share that I have been appointed as the Senior Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa,” wrote Esagala. “With great humility, I wish to thank Rt. Hon. Tayebwa for trusting me with this new appointment as SPS.”
Meanwhile, former NBS TV reporter Joseph Sabiti, who previously held the role Esagala has taken up, is now the SPS in the office of the speaker, meaning that Among’s elevation to Parliament’s top job automatically led to Sabiti’s ‘rise’ within a few months.
The biggest loser in these changes was Sarah Kagingo, Oulanyah’s former press secretary, who has since been demoted, and sent to work in the Parliamentary Library. (Read Story Here).
