City Prophet Gives Shocking Reason for Beating Up Church Members: If Jesus Beat People, Who Am I Not to Whip My Followers?

A self-styled pastor and prophet in the city of Hoima has explained why he thinks he did not commit any offence by beating some of his church members.

Prophet Denis Kintu of Empowerment City Church (ECC) in Kyesiga, Hoima, left many Ugandans in shock this week after he was filmed whipping some of his church members.

With the video spreading like wildfire, police swung in action and arrested Prophet Kintu and other suspected accomplices.

These included: James Mugisha, Stella Mbabazi, Twaha Tusiime, and Bela Nsiimwe, according to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine regional police spokesperson.

Kintu and his suspected accomplices have been detained at the Hoima Central Police Division headquarters awaiting the processing of their file for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Prophet Kintu and his co-accused would later appear before the Hoima Security Committee which was chaired by Badru Mugabi, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC).

The ‘man of God’ had been summoned to answer queries related to the beating of the church members.

Hakiza has revealed that when Prophet Kintu was grilled, he defended himself, saying he sees nothing wrong with beating church members since Jesus Christ himself had whipped those he found selling goods in the temple.

After claiming that his actions were modelled on the example of Jesus’ quest to cleanse the temple, Prophet Hakiza began ‘speaking in tongues’ when he was asked to present documents to prove the legality of the church he has been operating.

The prophet was unable to provide the documents from relevant authorities such as the City Council and the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).

The Albertine police spokesperson also revealed that three sticks with which Prophet Kintu was reportedly beating church members were recovered from Empowerment City Church.
