CID Spokesperson Twine Transferred

Police chief Martins Okoth Ochola has transferred Charles Mansio Twine, the spokesperson of Uganda Police Force (UPF) Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), in the latest changes.

At least 300 police officers, directors and commanders have been transferred or appointed in recent days. A big number of those transferred or appointed are at the ranks beginning from that of Commissioner of Police (CP) to Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP).

As is the norm in security agencies and government where further training is followed by promotions or new assignments, most of those transferred or appointed finished a course at the Bwebajja Police College. The training lasted one year.

In the latest shakeup, Twine will leave CID where he has served as spokesperson for the last three years. He will head to Parliament to take up a new role as the Officer in charge of Parliamentary Investigations. Ochola was yet to announce an officer that will replace Twine as CID Spokesperson.

Meanwhile, IGP Ochola has reportedly refused to renew the contracts of senior police officers who contracts expired recently. While the law allows for the renewal of these senior officers’ contracts, IGP Ochola is said to have declined to renew the contracts, sending the officers home.

The officers, who include now former Police Political Commissar Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye, have already handed over their offices to deputies and gone home, with hopes that they could be redeployed by the police’s administration.

AIGP Kasingye recently revealed that there was a likelihood that he could bounce back through a renewal of his contract. (Read story Here).
