Uganda’s President and Commander in Chief (CiC) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has transferred, posted and promoted general officers and other senior officers of the national army, significantly affecting the Special Forces Command (SFC), an elite unit charged with the security of the head-of-state and members of his family.
Museveni fired acting SFC commandant Brig Gen Felix Busizoori and replaced him with Brig Gen David Mugisha who has been serving at the Third Division of the UPDF.
Brig Gen Busizoori has been sent to the Third Division as its second in command while Col Herbert Nabimanya has been transferred from SFC to Land Forces.
Museveni also transferred Maj Gen Samuel Kawaga to Nairobi as Defence Advisor while Brig Gen Joseph Semwanga has been appointed Commander of the UPDF’s First Division.
The CiC also announced a few promotions. Lt Col Allan Matsiko has been elevated to the rank of Colonel (Col) while Maj Dancun Kafeero promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col).
The UPDF and its units such as the SFC have seen a number of shakeups in recent years. Recent military appointments and promotions have raised questions about tribalism, with appointments in April 2022 being dominated by officers from one region of the country. (Read Story Here).
