CDF JOB: Will Museveni appoint First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba or is it Gen Mbadi’s time?

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, the Commander-in-chief of armed forces, is expected to name a new Chief of Defence Forces after the position fell vacant June 08 with the appointment of Gen David Muhoozi as junior (state) minister for internal affairs.

The outgoing CDF, also a UPDF representative in Parliament, will serve under Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire.

Two military officers are said to be favorites for the CDF job, according security sources: Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi and first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Lt Gen Mbadi has served as deputy CDF since 2017.

Mbadi, a former Museveni ADC replaced Lt Gen Charles Angina who Museveni moved to work under his younger brother Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh as deputy coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).

There is a likelihood of Museveni elevating Mbadi.

But his son Lt Gen Kainerugaba could also take the miliyary’s top job.

In recent years, Museveni has assigned Kainerugaba vital assignments especially in his capacity as senior presidential advisor for special operations, most of them on security.

Museveni also returned his son to head the Special Forces Command (SFC), an elite unit in charge of presidential security.
